China is imposing stricter controls on Hollywood as part of a strong reaction to rising trade tensions between the administration led by President Donald Trump in the U.S. and China’s own government.
The China Film Administration revealed intentions to reduce the number of American movies being imported, instead focusing more on films from different countries. This shift is presented as part of a broader cultural adjustment and occurs amid Beijing’s accusations that Washington is using tariffs as a tool against them.
A representative from the CFA denounced the U.S. administration for "misusing tariffs against China," stating that this action was misguided and could lead to more extensive cultural repercussions.
The CFA indicated that these measures would "undoubtedly decrease the local audience's appreciation of American movies even more," thereby supporting the decision to restrict Hollywood film imports and encourage viewing of movies from different nations.
