Ruto Urges Leaders: Reject Divisive and Tribal Politics

President William Ruto has asked leaders to end divisive and tribal politics and insterad embrace unity among Kenyans.

The President pointed out that divisive politics were to blame for underdevelopment in some parts of the country.

He lamented that Kenya's advancement has been hampered by polarizing politics, which have obstructed attempts at fostering national cohesion.

During the memorial service for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's assistant in Siaya County, President Ruto appealed for an end to divisive and ethnic politics.

He commended Raila for courageously deciding to collaborate with him within the framework of a broad-based government, stating that this step aimed at fostering national unity and economic growth.

"Just as I supported you when you required a man’s presence, you too have been there for me when I needed someone to lean on," the President stated.

He mentioned that Raila decided to put aside his personal interests in order to collaborate with him for the overall benefit of the nation.

"We need to eliminate divisive politics and negative ethnic sentiments. It’s entirely feasible for us to achieve a nation that benefits everyone," he stated.

He requested the leaders to take inspiration from the previous Prime Minister and prioritize the welfare of Kenyans over their individual ambitions.

Ruto seized the moment to highlight the government's accomplishments in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture, asserting that these developments have boosted the nation's economy.

He highlighted the stabilization of the Kenyan shilling and the decrease in inflation as signs that the economy has since improved.

For the first time in Kenyan history, the President stated that electricity is now reaching all parts of the nation.

"We are bringing electricity to all parts of the nation. Previously, this privilege was limited to the wealthy at the detriment of vulnerable Kenyan citizens," President Ruto clarified.

He mentioned that Siaya County will receive KSh1.2 billion to link up 15,000 additional homes.

He further clarified that approximately $540 million will be allocated to enhance road infrastructure throughout the nation.

President Ruto characterized the deceased George Oduor as highly capable, trustworthy, possessing strong moral principles, dedicated, and a devoted citizen.

Raila, for his part, encouraged Kenyans to avoid political practices based on ethnicity and instead promote solidarity.

"We do not need to encourage tribal politics that could weaken our nation’s cohesion," he stated.

He warned Members of Parliament not to undermine devolution, stating that it has significantly improved life in rural regions.

The National Assembly's Minority Leader, Junet Mohammed, commended the recently signed pact between President Ruto and Raila, stating that it will expedite progress throughout the nation.

The recent pact between UDA and ODM aims at fostering unity and promoting development within this nation, Junet pointed out.

General Secretary Cotu Francis Atwoli and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga urged leaders to refrain from bringing politics into educational institutions.

One after another, the speakers praised the deceased Oduor as an outstanding individual who consistently showed unwavering dedication to his superior.
