Revealed: Consequences If Wike and Fubara Reject Peace Pact in 90 Days

  • The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called upon FCT Minister Wike and Rivers State Governor Fubara to address their disagreements and enter into a fresh peace accord.
  • The organization condemned both leaders for placing their private interests above the well-being of the public, cautioning that Nigerians would seek accountability should these leaders fall short of their duties.
  • The CDD has urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to set up a mediation panel aimed at fostering a peaceful solution to the current conflict in Rivers State.

Abuja, FCT - The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD) has delivered a strong caution to both the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. The coalition is calling upon these leaders to resolve their conflicts and agree to a fresh peace accord within a timeframe of ninety days.

Farovint.ng indicates that the political unrest in Rivers State has escalated, resulting in President Bola Tinubu imposing a state of emergency and suspending Governor Fubara along with several other elected representatives.

Even though a prior peace accord was signed in December 2023, disagreements continue to simmer between Wike and Fubara.

River crises: CDD criticizes inadequate leadership

As stated by Dr. George Ifure on behalf of the CDD, both leaders were criticized for placing their personal interests above the well-being of the general public.

The organization characterized the ongoing crisis as a result of "leadership failure," and cautioned that Nigerians would hold Wike and Fubara responsible if they failed to promptly address their disagreements.

"We urge Wike and Governor Fubara to set aside their disagreements and aim to sign a fresh peace agreement within the coming 90 days. They should place the public’s welfare at the forefront and seek a long-term resolution to the conflict," the statement concluded.
"We warn Wike and Fubara that Nigerians are ready to hold them responsible if they fail to sign a peace pact within the stipulated timeframe."

Rivers: CDD Seeks Mediation and Intervention

The CDD also urged President Tinubu and the National Assembly to set up a mediation panel made up of notable Nigerians to help achieve a settlement.

The organization emphasized that the situation in Rivers State serves as a critical examination of Tinubu's leadership capabilities.

"We encourage President Bola Tinubu to create history through his approach to resolving the Rivers State crisis. This critical juncture demands courageous and forward-thinking leadership," the statement concluded.

River crises: CDD urges for democratic solution

Highlighting the importance of peace, the CDD called upon all parties involved to strive for a democratic solution aimed at reinstating governance and stability within Rivers State.

"We urge him to concentrate on the well-being and interests of the Nigerian people, to hear their voices, and to strive for a peaceful and democratic solution that will reinstate democratic rule in Rivers State," the organization declared.

Emergency rule in Rivers: Nigerians in Diaspora react

In a separate report, the Nigerians in Diaspora Association (NDA-USA) denounced President Tinubu’s announcement of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The group criticised the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state assembly, warning that the move threatens democratic institutions.

It required an instant rollback of the decision and outlined strategies for demonstrations in key U.S. urban centers to exert pressure on the federal administration.
