At a dinner hosted by the Abia State Government in Umuahia on April 11, 2025, in honor of him, Obasanjo expressed concerns over the misuse of Nigeria’s resources. He emphasized that the issue does not stem from inadequate divine provisions but rather from ineffective leadership and governance.
Nigerians should not be grappling with poverty since God has provided us with everything necessary," stated the ex-president. "Should we misuse what God has bestowed upon us, our condemnation lies solely within ourselves, not with God.
Obasanjo also commended Governor Alex Otti For what he characterized as significant progress in reshaping Abia State. He stated that if Nigeria had approximately 18 governors operating at Otti’s level, the nation would be well on its way to genuine advancement.

He stressed that personal matters or political disagreements hold no weight for him when the nation's welfare is concerned. "To me, whether someone ignores my greeting or fails to respond, what truly matters is ensuring that the citizens of this land receive what they rightfully should have—decent administration."
Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the ex-president during his speech for both his presence and assistance. He disclosed that his government is undertaking comprehensive changes, notably within the educational field, with the aim of improving access to high-quality education throughout the region.
Once you have a vision, you must stick with it," Otti stated. "It took us a decade to reach this point. In both elections between 2015 and 2019, which we participated in, we emerged victorious, yet those victories were taken away. Many individuals lost faith and believed it wouldn't succeed, but I remained convinced that I received a clear message from God.
