A former Israeli military personnel was detained for unauthorized work as a tour guide for foreign minors on Koh Phangan.
On Tuesday, police arrested David Gozlan, aged 45, as he was guiding a group of 23 foreign children to Wang Sai waterfall located in the northern part of the island.
The police have been monitoring Mr. Gozlan since Sunday and noticed he visited multiple times, paying the 20 baht entrance fee for each child, supplying them with food, and organizing transportation for their convenience.
Each time, he guided clusters of 10 to 30 individuals, according to law enforcement officials. It is alleged that he lured clients through the WhatsApp application by forming a group called 'Exploring Nature with Uncle' and obtaining membership approvals from the kids’ parents.
The cost of the trips was set at 800 baht per person for a single day excursion and ranged from 6,000 to 8,000 baht per individual for a week-long package. The locations visited included places like waterfalls, beaches, temples, or cafes, according to the police report.
The police stated that Mr. Gozlan confessed to the charges of operating without proper authorization and illegitimately functioning as a tour guide, a role designated exclusively for Thai nationals.
Mr. Gozlan mentioned that he had previously served as a special forces member in the Israeli army.
