SYDNEY, April 13 -- According to Australian scientists, the most effective method for reducing extra belly fat in kids involves combining nutritious dietary choices with consistent exercise routines.
According to a study published on Saturday, combining dietary changes with physical activity proved much more successful in decreasing central obesity compared to using just one of these methods. This research examined information gathered from 34 clinical trials that included more than 8,100 participants ranging from ages 5 to 18.
The researchers from Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University stated that central obesity, characterized by fat accumulation around the abdomen and vital organs, poses greater risks compared to overall obesity. This type of obesity is associated with increased chances of developing heart diseases, diabetes, and various chronic health problems.
Standalone strategies like diet-only, exercise-only, supplements, or medication didn't show significant results in reducing waist size, said the study published in JAMA Network Open.

The most effective programs incorporated either Mediterranean-style or reduced-fat diets combined with up to 150 minutes of exercise each week, extending over a period of 6 to 9 months.
Experts emphasize that these findings underscore the critical urgency for immediate action due to the ongoing increase in global childhood obesity rates, impacting approximately 94 million girls and 65 million boys across the world in 2022.
The researchers emphasize that concerted actions from governments, educational institutions, and public health bodies are essential to tackle this problem, with the findings aligning with worldwide objectives aimed at eradicating malnutrition and reducing premature fatalities due to noncommunicable diseases by the year 2030.
